Another false teacher recently joined the historic cohort who’ve arrogantly thought they had figured out when Christ will return. This is tragic on two levels. First, there are many who were duped. Tons of people believed the prediction and invested time, energy, and money spreading it. Secondly, it’s tragic that many will now move toward the opposite extreme. They suspected Jesus wouldn’t return anytime soon and now see this false prediction as confirmation he really isn’t. This is an equally tragic mistake. Jesus said a lot about his return and one of the overarching messages was His followers should keep themselves ready and waiting.
Here are 10 things Jesus really said about his return.
1. No one knows the day or the hour of my return.
In Mark 13:32, Jesus had been teaching his disciples about his return and says, “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Luke records it this way, “You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Lk 12:40).
Jesus told his disciples even He didn’t know exactly when He would return. At this point in history, God the Father knew the exact number of years, months, days and seconds until Christ would return and Jesus didn’t. We need not speculate about future details Christ himself didn’t know.
Also, Jesus applied this truth to their lives, “Be ready.” Jesus didn’t know if he would return in their lifetimes, but his command to them is his command to us almost 2,000 years later. Keep watch. Stay awake.
2. There will be several signs, increasing in intensity, as my return draws near.
Christ’s followers should pay attention to the signs of his return. They should speculate about the exact day or hour but should pay attention to natural events and recognize the potential fulfillment of Christ’s words as they happen.
Jesus promised there would be wars and rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes in various places (Matt 24:6-7). And also, “signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory” (Lk 21:25-27).
Additionally, Jesus used the term “birth pains” to describe these signs. Like the pain of childbirth, these signs will get more intense and frequent as the day draws close. When we see increasing numbers of earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, and other natural disasters, Jesus instructs, “straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near” (Lk 21:28). Once again, Jesus instructs us to pay attention to the signs of His return in order to be ready when He comes.
3. Pray for the strength to escape the things that are going to take place.
In Luke 21:36, Jesus taught his followers, “But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” From the context, the “escaping” Jesus refers to is escaping from the judgment and wrath God will bring upon those who have rejected Christ. Jesus teaches his disciples to pray for the strength to escape. Too many believe Christians will escape by default, but Jesus told his disciples to pray for strength to escape, and so we must.
4. It will seem like a normal day.
In Luke 17:26-30, Jesus compared the day the Son of Man will be revealed to God’s judgment in the days of both Noah and Lot. In both these times, people were going about the normal business of life: eating, drinking, marrying, buying, selling, planting, and building. In the midst of this apparent normalcy, God’s judgment and wrath fell. Jesus said this is what it will be like when He comes. It will be a great cosmic interruption that will be like lightning which “lights up the sky from one side to the other” (Lk 17:24).
5. I will repay everyone for what he has done.
In the last chapter of Revelation, Jesus told his followers He is coming and “bringing his recompense…to repay everyone for what he has done” (22:12). Matthew 25 describes the scene when Jesus will sit on his glorious throne and all nations will be gathered before him to be judged (31-33). All people will stand before Jesus and give account for what they did in life. How glorious it will be to stand confidently in the imputed righteousness of Christ in that day.
6. Not everyone who expects to make it into Christ’s kingdom will.
Some of the most sobering words of Jesus are about those who will not be allowed to enter the kingdom of heaven. In Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” What could be worse than hearing these words from Jesus?
At the end, there will be many people who will think they are in because of their ministry credentials. And Jesus will say, “I never knew you” and call them “workers of lawlessness.” Their repentance was in word only. They acted like followers but didn’t have a saving relationship with Christ based on faith and repentance as the foundation of their lives. Jesus said there will be many people in this terrifying condition, living their lives thinking they were in and finding out in the final analysis they weren’t.
7. There will be great persecution and many will fall away.
Jesus promised great persecution would break out against his followers and would cause many to fall away (Matt 24:9-10). It’s relatively easy to follow Christ when things are going well, but when times get tough we find out what we’re made of. Is our faith in Christ only as strong as the comfort we enjoy? If God’s enemies come and take everything will we cling to Christ or fall away? Jesus promised many would make the incomprehensible choice to fall away.
8. Because of lawlessness, the love of many will grow cold.
Jesus promised that sin would lure many away from Him (Matt 24:12). These are people who once loved Christ warmly who have cooled in their affections for Him. They’ve traded in their desires for Christ for worthless idols. Sex, money, power and other false gods have replaced the love of Christ in their hearts. Their love grows cold as they lose the war against temptations to sin. Stoking the heart’s fiery love for Christ must include destroying the wet buckets of sin that can so quickly quench it. True Christ followers must repent often and much.
9. Be on your guard. Keep awake.
Jesus continually told his followers to stay awake, to watch their lives, and to be ready for his return. In Matthew, Jesus gave four parables to explain how and why his followers should be prepared for his coming: the homeowner and the thief (24:42-44); the good and wicked servants (24:45-51); the 10 virgins (25:1-13); and the talents (25:14-30). In each of these parables, Christ described readiness with working to complete the work Christ gave us, namely fulfilling the Great Commission. Every Christian is to diligently use the gifts and opportunities God provides to reach the world for Christ.
To be awake is to be ready and willing to do Christ’s will. In Gethsemane, Jesus’ disciples slept instead of joining Him in prayer. They weren’t doing what Christ asked but slept. In the same way, many Christians today are asleep to Christ’s will. They don’t seek him or ask for his direction. Instead, like the disciples in the garden, they sleep. Hear the words of the prophet Isaiah, “Awake, awake, put on strength” (51:9).
Peter says it well, “The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:7-8).
10. I am coming soon!
Four times in the book of Revelation, Jesus said to the churches, “I am coming soon!” (Rev 16:15; 22:7,12,20). It was originally meant as an encouraging word to 1st century Christians suffering by the hands of Rome and has continued to encourage Christ’s followers throughout the ages. Christians in every generation are to hold tightly to the promise that Christ will return soon.
As the writer of Hebrews reminds, “Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him” (Heb 9:28). Like young children eagerly longing for Christmas morning, Christians eagerly wait for Christ to return. In doing so, we live out Paul’s wonderful promise to the church in Thessalonica, “Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord” (1 Thess 4:17). Nothing is greater than to be with Jesus Christ always and forever.

Do you think there has been a noticeable increase in natural disasters as of late? Data seems to be inconclusive, but scientists and meteorologists seem to keep telling us “no.”
I’ve seen research suggesting they are increasing and some suggesting they aren’t. When you consider lives impacted, it does seem we’ve had an increasing number of major disasters impacting large masses of people in the last several years.

People keep saying that the world has always been like this: many earthquakes, many pestilence and famines, many wars, etc. However, we’re forgetting one thing: never before could one know about all these things. Back 500 years ago no one would think there are earthquakes and famine all over the world. No one knew of wars from far away lands. Today, in the present day, is the only time in all of history where the Bible’s warnings have all been possible.

Jesus told about his 2nd coming very clearly. But disbelievers always find ways to reject who comes from God. Jesus came to Jews showed many proofs that he is the same one who was suppose to come but Jews did not believe on him and they tried to crucify him to prove he is not from God. Likewise at his 2nd return he was suppose to be rejected by his own.

It helps me in my studies to realize that Christ’s 2nd Coming is actually 2 events or phases: (1) in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, believers meet the Lord in the air; and (2) in Zechariah 14:4-5 the Lord’s feet stand upon the mount of Olives. The 1st event is commonly called the Rapture when believers are removed from the scene as the 7-year Tribulation begins to unfold on earth. There are no signs for the Rapture – and this should encourage all believers to share The Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 10:9 – more concise references if needed) now while this window of opportunity is yet open. The 2nd event is when the Lord returns with the saints to save Israel and stop Armageddon.
Many events happen between the Rapture and Our Lord’s Return to the earth – so yes, there are signs for The Lord’s appearance upon the mount of Olives. However, believers will not be on the earth to experience the horrors of the tribulation (souls will be saved during this time, too).
Here’s 1 Thess 4:16-18, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” See also 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 wherein God reveals yet another mystery about the Rapture.
Believers too will be judged – this also encourages me to share God’s Word and contribute to the Body of Christ. See 1 Cor 3:12-15 and 2 Cor 5:10 for references to the believers’ judgment (we can earn reward, suffer loss, but NOT lose our salvation as stated in Scripture).

Malaysia is still one of these countries. Christians here are forbidden by law to preach the gospel to any Muslim. It would take a man of great faith to dare oppose this law enforced by the local government. This is one of the reasons why Jesus is taking so long to return.
Please keep waiting for his 2nd return like Jews. Jews had been waiting for over 4000 years for their Messiah to come. Unfortunately, he came and left but they are still waiting. So you are not new. Bhudhist are still waiting for Bhudda to return. Hindu are still waiting for Krishna to come back, Muslim are waiting for bloody Mahdi and so the Christian are waiting for bloody Messiah to come. Right now He is giving so much warning, and so many chances for man to come to Him in submission and repentance but that is not enough for Him is it? No, even at the end beyond the 11th hour, He still gives man another window of opportunity. Man can see that the rapture has come and gone and that millions of Christ’s faithful have been taken away, and there is still the open door and all they have to do is call out for His mercy, to knock on that door…and they will not be refused entry! That mercy and grace is amazing indeed

Dear Ivan, your comment arrived by email – and just to clarify, and I say this with humbleness of heart with no desire to offend, that I do not believe the Rapture has come and gone. We are not in the midst of The Tribulation at this time. My belief, based solidly on Scripture, is that the Rapture is yet to come.
And yes, God’s grace is unfathomable. Just like when the door of Noah’s Ark remained opened for 7 days for any to enter (Gen 7:10), God desires for none to perish, none to succumb to the second death. And to offer up His Only Son as a sacrifice for our sins, as the way to reconcile man unto Himself through each believing heart – there are no words. Believe The Gospel – “Christ died for our sins … He rose again” (1 Cor 15:1-4)
Such love God has for each of us. “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Matt 10:30) We cannot imagine this kind of love.

And Hi Karen, as I was praying this morning I began counting my blessings and what a hit! It is always good to check on what the Lord is doing in your own life at any one time because it is too easy to lose focus under a load of troubles, I am so glad that I belong to Jesus Christ!
In response to the issue of the rapture, I did not mean to imply that the rapture has already happened, I was writing in the future-tense and not the present-tense. All Christians know that the rapture is still to come at some predetermined but humanly-unknown time and I was simply illustrating that even after the rapture, when many will have lost hope there will still be time to come to Him and be saved
In our home we are very poor, and not by our own doing but by circumstance. Yet we have something that is far more precious than gold or jewels and that is the love of Christ that we share. My wife and I share this love with each-other, and together we listen to our family and friends talk when they visit and we are deeply troubled that so many live as if there is no need to fear God’s awesome wrath and power, they live and love as if there is no heaven and hell. So many who once proclaimed Christ as savior have drifted into apathy and indifference. It is so humbling to be Christian and we pray that those in this world today who are Chritians will remain so

I believe Jesus’ word when he said he was going to come back in that generation. The Scripture is very clear, “not taste death”, “this generation will not pass away”. He came back to end the Old Covenant Age, and to bring in everlasting righteousness. Please understand that Jesus is the truth, don’t put tradition ahead of God’s commands! Read the time statements in the New Testament, “in just a very little while”, “it is the last hour”, “things that must shortly take place.” Were they not inspired by the Holy Spirit?

I notice nobody has answered the obvious question that was put. Jesus not knowing the day or hour is not the same as not knowing the timescale which Jesus gave and that was in THAT era or generation. Some standing there and not taste death cannot mean anything else but in that period. Paul confirms it. The time of his return is LESS than we FIRST believed. Why oh why do Christians use the bits they want and leave out the other bits. They do that the whole time and wonder why people fall away when they themselves read what the text reads and not what internet Preachers say. Jesus didn’t come back then and never will. Think about it. Jesus was telling them when he was returning and yet not ONE disciple asks him why, where are you going to? Nothing about any why he needed to die or when he was going to die and nothing? Were they so illiterate they couldn’t think?

When Jesus said that some of those standing here won’t taste death before you see the Son of Man in His glory, He wasn’t referring to the second coming. If you continue to read, the mount of transfiguration comes right after that, where Peter, James and John do actually see Jesus in His glorified state. This was not an unfulfilled prophesy.

He has never left us. The only way to recognize him is through our hearts. The eyes of the mind cannot comprehend his glory, but the heart is where his throne is. Jesus predicted his 2nd coming would come during the lifetimes of some of his listeners. That would have been about 2000 years ago. He never showed up. I don’t know why people are still
expecting him.
He did show up as mentioned in the Bible, Holy Quran, Geeta and other religious books but people never accept any one who comes from God first. But slowly slowly people started accepting him. Jesus wasnot accepted by Jews initially. Only 13 people accepted him in early days. Most of them left him alone at the time of crucification. But as with all other son of God I mean prophets, people accepted Jesus too. Likewise at his 2nd return, he was persecuted by his country men day and night. Thank you trying to say what has been said for centuries. According to Jews; prophecies have not yet been fulfilled for 1st coming of Messiah of Jews. Elijah has not descended from heaven yet. John the Baptist was born not came from sky.

First of all, please remember that present Bible is not 100 percent word of God, may be the most 5%. It was written by disciple of Jesus between 30 to 100 years later. Paul who was a killer not disciple started putting pagan ideas of many Gods in it.
How the 4 Gospel came in to being is also not hidden to scholars. It was Constantine who was disappointed with more than 300 hundred Gospels. He asked the priests to do something with these Gospels and reduced to 4. Though he was still not satisfied but 4 are better than 300. All other copies were destroyed. But many Gospel remained with followers as personal copy. One of them is Gospel of Barnabas. Which is in the library of Pope now a days. Gospel of Barnabas clearly says Jesus was a prophet of God.
Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. Companion were assigned to write it down and also there were many who starting memorizing the Holy Quran. Hazrat Uthman 3rd Caliph of Islam was one of them. So no one change the Holy Quran.
Now let see what the Bible says about your God or son of God regarding death of Jesus on cross.
Question is why Jews want to kill innocent Jesus. Jews do not want to kill Jesus. They want to crucify him to prove Jesus is not from God as mentioned in the Bible. “For he that is hanged is accursed of God” (Deut 21:23) otherwise it was easy for Jews to kill him. They were in hundreds and thousands. If they would have paid more than thirty pieces of silver to his disciple, he might have done this service (killing Jesus) too.
“During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the One who could save him from death (His God) , and he was heard because of his reverent submission.” (Hebrews 5:7)
Jesus was crying in front of God whole night before crucifixion. “Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank thee that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me.” (But not in the case of crucifixion according to Christian and Jews). God told Jews kill Jesus and prove he is not from me. Jews and Christian both believe that Jesus was killed on cross. Muslim believe he was saved from curse death.
How it possible that all prayers of Jesus were rejected by God Almighty to save him.
“An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” (Luke 22:43-44)
“He went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father (Allah), if it be possible, let this cup pass from me.” (John 26:39). It mean Jesus does not know the purpose of his arrival as being known to every Christian now. He took curse of God upon him to save Christian which is against his teaching – if you want to be saved, obey the commandments.
“He went away again and prayed the second time and prayed, saying …… and prayed the third time, saying the same words.” (John 26:42-44). Look how much he was crying and praying for his life but according to Christian his all prayer were of no use because God wants him to die on the cross.
My God, My God why have hast thou forsaken me? (Matt 27:46) According to the Holy Quran God did not forsaken him.
If Jesus raised up from dead after 3rd day, it was good chance to save whole town by saying look I am risen up as foretold by me. Now believe on me as Jews were demanding instead he kept hiding himself.

He saved other; himself he cannot save.” (Matt 27:42)

Please ponder over some facts mentioned below:
Why Jesus was crying in front of God to be saved. Why Jesus refused to Pilate when he was asked as you the king of Jews. He did not say, yes I am. Rather he said “you said so”. He was not trying to deceive Pilate by twisting his tong.
Why Jesus did not say I am literally son of God when asked by High Priest. Again he replied “you said so”. Jesus was not trying to save his life by giving false testimony. If he was a partner of God as in Trinity, he was well aware of intention of Jews and will of God; that he has to sacrifice his life as being mentioned by Christian. But still he tried his best to save his life. Crying in front of God, asking his disciple to pray for him, trying to prove in the court of Pilate and High priest that he is innocent. And Pilate said I find no fault in Jesus.
Body was not buried as a custom of Jews but kept in a roomy Sepulcher. Why? was there any plan to save him by Pilate according to the dream of his wife. “have thou nothing to do with that just man” (Matt 27:19)
Why his legs were not broken as a custom of Jews. When body was pierced, blood gushed out. Blood cannot gushed out from a dead body as a medical fact. So Jesus was alive though unconscious because other two were still alive. Jesus was a God according to Christian, how he can die whereas other were still alive. It is possible, that Jesus was weaker than other two.

Very few know, that Jesus actually told what his name would be in the end. In order to find what that name is, one must discover what he really said in his own language of his time….not the Greek interpretation.

Praise be to Our Lord God Almighty who sent his only son to die that we might be forgiven for our sins. But he didn’t stop there, God raised Jesus from the dead by destroying the gates of hell. Death has lost it’s sting the devil has no power over those who have accepted Jesus as their Saviour.
Matthew 24 not only says that Jesus would come soon, but Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.” The coming was supposed to be within the lives of that generation he spoke to. Obviously this didn’t come true.
if we fail to understand Genesis 1 & 2, we will never understand the whole Bible. this book was written in sequence and we need to appreciate the fact that time scales mentioned in Genesis 1 and those in Genesis 2 and afterwards are totally of different scale.

Jesus never spoke of his return. Jesus spoke of him going one way no return. John 16:10
But Jesus did spoke of the return of the second Son of Man. This one was to suffer, be rejected. But he will not be killed. luke 17:22-25. While the first Son of Man(Jesus) was also to suffer, be rejected but was going to be killed. Luke 9:18-23
As concerning the Word of life, Luke 10 section 25-28 says: On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” He answered: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
Luke 18 section 18-25 says: A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good–except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.'” “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said. When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was a man of great wealth. Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Matthew 5 section 43-48 says: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
In Old Testament, the Jewish people and their ancestors were given the Law to observe. First, What Adam and Eve should observe was that they could not eat the fruits from the tree of wisdom. Then, their son Cain was told that he should not kill. As sins became increased, the laws were also added more. Up to the generation of Moses, the Law in Old Testament was given to Israelites. We know that the Law is good and the Law is used to punish people who commit sins, but people cannot obey the Law because the sinful spirits are in people. Even that we know stealing and giving false testimony are sinful, but greedy and pride spirits in us drive us to do sinful things. So as Old Testament prophesied we need to get rid of our sinful nature from our spirits.
Jeremiah 31 section 31-33 says: “The time is coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Ezekiel 36 section 24-27 says: “‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
The prophecies are fulfilled when Jesus begins to teach love. The two greatest commandments are ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” Love is above the Law and if people have love they are free from the law of sin and death. People who are full of love will not think about stealing or giving false testimony but are merciful and they feed hungry people or give thirsty people something to drink or invite strangers in or clothe people who need clothes. The Law is for people who commit sins. Nobody will say that he will get reward because he does not steal before. But love is the grace we get. And with love we will get eternal life.
Romans 13 section 8-10 says: Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Luke 17 section 20-21 says: Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say,’ Here it is,’ or ‘ There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.”
John 4 section 23-24 says: Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”
Jesus said he would not come back in a normal way. Where in the Bible does he make that statement?
